GWT 1.6 released

Google has recently released its latest incarnation of the Google Web Toolkit (GWT), version 1.6.

Key improvements include:

  • New project structure for easier deployment to Java server
  • Use of Jetty for internal Java server, rather than Tomcat
  • Multi-threaded compiler for faster compiling
  • New Event handler

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but I'll report back here once I have some experience with it.

There is a discussions section on the Google site for asking any questions and making observations.

 

GWTDesigner 5.1

The Instantiations team has released a new version of GWTDesigner (5.1) to fit in with the release of GWT 1.5.2. It runs in Eclipse 3.2 and later and provides an excellent UI layout tool for your GWT objects.

I find it very useful for setting up and viewing the UI and also copes quite well with user changes to the code. One advantage of the new version is that it automatically updates the types of RPC objects and inserts the necessary generics code for AsyncCallback.
